Ron,

Got a glimpse at Beach Fights. Love the spontaneous gestural style, you managed not to over work the images. They feel urgent, intense.

I'll keep reading and looking.

Hi Ron,

Just wanted to mention. Your subject matter reminded me of Steinbeck's stories.

Well written vignettes. Left me feeling like I had enough of surf culture, though. Pretty physical world vapid of intelligence. Any witty or clever beefs?

I go many times to see "Beach Fights"

I saw your online feature about the beach fights, man, you've experienced some wild times and been to some great surf spots!

So Ron,

Will....Beach Fights have a sequel....Gallery fights??

Interesting series, quick, imaginative and to the point!

Thanks

Ron, great stories from great surfing. The pictures make it all genuinely fascinating. I never see fights like these so it's nice to have this documented.

I want thank everybody so much for all the attention my series, BEACH FIGHTS received. There were far more comments than any other section that COTW has ever had. Whether your statements were positive or negative, I appreciate all the time it took out of your day to make them. Also I would like to send a BIG MAHALO to Andrew Couldwell for showing so much interest in both myself and this topic. Thanks again everybody, and please, lets take it easy with each other out in the surf.

Hi Ron

Just read your beach fights surf stories @ club, even read the blog & saw birdlegs reply. This was presented very well. Good to bring this into awareness. Seems like honesty is the best policy. You always seemed so ballsy. Whats' missing is the fights you were in and the damage done, and how you feel about that now. I like the illustrations with the stories too.

I would hope that there is a lot less alcohol in surfing in the future. I think that it fueled a bunch of destructive behavior too.

Jim

Pretty rough stories...

I don't get "surf rage" at all. It's just totally nuts to me. I do understand locals "territorial" behavior (their annoyance...not rage) to a degree...b/c it is a bummer when the waves get crowded with weekend out-of-towners and kooks. But to attack someone like that (in the water!) - that's way worse an offense then whatever the offender did. Way worse.

I don't think most surf rage is about surfing (my opinion). A lot of guys just use surfing as an excuse to kick someone's ass; It's like those mob scenes that sometimes happen after a big local team baseball game etc. There are always those aggressive fans in the crowd who want to trash some innocent persons car (usually with an out-of-towners license plate it...) as a way of showing what loyal fans they are.
