Club Of The Waves was founded, and is still run and edited by Andrew at RoomFive. Andrew is a surfer and designer in the UK, and of course has a big passion for surf art, photography and the history of surfing.
Club Of The Waves is an International surfing, surf art and culture website. Its main drive is to profile/showcase surf artists and photographers from all over the world, and documents the history and culture of surfing.
The idea for a surf website was first dreamt up in the summer of 2004. It started off as a series of scribbles in a sketchbook and turned into a year long University project as part of a BA Degree in the UK in 2005. The website eventually went live in April of 2006. Since then COTW has become something of an obsession, always striving to improve, research and add new material. As a designer myself, I am always using the great inspirational art & design portals available on the web to promote my work and gain inspiration. There was nothing like this for surf artists, and so COTW was geared to do just that!
Over the past 19 months COTW has grown at an alarming rate, far exceeding even my own expectations. I’m always looking to add new features. The recent artist interviews have been a particular success, and I’m looking to do more of the same looking to the future. The positive feedback I’ve had from the featured artists, photographers and public has been a real inspiration for me. Surf art as a genre seems to be getting really popular now, and that’s great, these artists are so talented and their work deserves to be seen! And it’s an honour for me to have COTW to provide a home for all that talent.
