‘No Butts on the Beach’ pledge

We just read this small article in the ‘Surfers Against Sewage News’ section of the latest Surfer’s Path Magazine that really made us think. It was about local businesses, and the public’s (or smokers) responsibility to not litter their cigarette butts. Think how many times you’ve seen a cigarette butt in the sand, or worse, floating in the water next to you while your paddling out or waiting for a set… GROSS!

The facts outlined in the article really speak for themselves…

Did you know:

– Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world.
– Cigarette butts are one of the most commonly found litter items on beaches in the UK.
– Cigarette butts are not biodegradable, but made from 12,000 plastic fibres.
– One cigarette butt can take up to 15 years to break down and pollute 3 litres of seawater.
