Board Art Benefit

Words from artist Matt Beard: "A quick last-minute heads up about a project I’ve been fumbling along with for the last year or so called the Board Art Benefit. It’s a simple concept, boards plus artists equals benefit for SurfAid. I put together a dozen or so artists to work live on surfboards from various shapers at the Sacred Craft event in October, and now they’re all finished and showing for the first time this weekend. Here is some footage the Billabong Pipe Masters webcast, where Kelly Slater and Gerry Lopez discuss the Pipe Trophy board that Phil Roberts and Gerry Lopez made as a tribute to Andy Irons for the 2011 event. We stitched those clips with a few photos and added a few thoughts to hopefully communicate just how stoked and thankful we are to have the opportunity to make one of these legendary boards available through the Board Art Benefit.

And if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a clip of Kelly Slater fresh out of the water shortly after winning his 11th world title at the Rip Curl Search contest at Ocean Beach a little while back where he calls the Phil Roberts/Gerry Lopez trophy board "the prized possession in surfing." Heavy words from a guy that knows a thing or two about surfing.
