Bret Walker hails from a diverse sporting background with competing
at professional level in surfing and snowboarding and also very
involved in the disciplines of skating and motocross. A spine injury
requiring surgery switched his career path to another of his passions
art.
Still surfing, traveling and occasionally competing in events such as
the Quiksilver Airshow Series and alternative events like the Annual
1970's singlefin specialty event held at his home beach, his
lifestyle fitting in with the oceans moods.
An interesting artistic study path was undertaken by Bret and juggled between traveling and competing. Independent studies were completed
in Art and Photography then private college for Graphic Design, Web
and Animation in Sydney where he won awards for best overall design
in print and also a 2nd place in the Design Graphics Magazine annual
cover competition and he also won the Cannonball Underwater
Illustration competition with a self portrait. With fine art Bret was
fortunate enough to be living at a secluded beach on the beautiful
NSW south coast of Australia where many artists reside, there he got
to hone his skills with a couple of established artists with their
studios within walking distance.
Choosing not to specialise and to constantly explore new art styles
and techniques Bret has also developed his own blend of sculpture and
aerosol on canvas. Currently favoring oil on canvas his next show
will be the underwater perspective of the breaking wave.
Bret recently showed his art as part of the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach 'Whitewash Surfer's that Art' which was the official opening to
the event. He created some of the paintings for this show live to the
public in an Ocean Gallery. Bret is currently working on artwork for
a Benefit Artshow by Electric team/surfers artists for pro surfer
Richie Lovett.
