The Making of a Surf Painting

This addition to Club Of The Waves was created especially for this site by one of surfings most sought after artists, Ron Croci. We hope you enjoy these tutorials and benefit from they're insight into 'the making of a surf painting'...
This tutorial features Ron Croci's latest commission by Quiksilver's Roxy division (pictured left). The original art was created as a contest poster, as well as other collateral uses. The subject of this work is the Roxy Pro surfing contest, in Cote de Basque, France, 2007. There are 10 installments (below). Each installment contains an example of the many steps used to create this particular piece of art.

The goal of this demonstration is not to say that there is only one way to paint a picture, but to show Ron's approach to his art, and what steps he takes to accomplish his unique set of goals. All artists need to create their own individual, signature styles, however the technique demonstrated here is very useful in the exploration of any specific practice.
